In January 2023, a lady from South Africa (not her real name) came to me with a concern, fibroids had been causing her a lot of discomfort, painful period pains, her stomach would sometimes swell but worse they were preventing her from getting pregnant.
When I reviewed her scan, the diagnosis showed multiple fibroids, the largest measuring over 13 cm(about the size of a grapefruit). I advised her to go for surgery because the fibroids were far larger than what we could normally treat with herbs.
She was extremely scared and understandably so because of the risks. She then went and did HIFU which is a less invasive to help with the period pain, shrink the fibroids and to stop their growth, but sadly, it didn’t work. Although the period pain got better the fibroids didn't shrink and continued to grow.
Last week, she told me she finally drew courage to have an open MYOMECTOMY, although MRI scan showed 3 fibroids the Dr removed 11 fibroids. I was genuinely happy because the fibroids had become unbearable, and she had taken a brave step toward reclaiming her health. She’s now recovering well, and with the fibroids gone, our focus shifts to the next stage.
If there are other factors delaying pregnancy, we’ll address those right away. Then we’ll plan for conception as soon as possible, because there is a possibility that fibroids tend to grow back faster if you don’t conceive within 6–12 months after removal.
Her consent was to encourage women struggling with larger fibroids and also trying to conceive too, do not give up, If you are in South Africa facing this kind of larger fibroids issues, she can recommend you to the hospital and the Dr for a perfect surgery and good review.
